Within the contexts of still life, the figure, and landscape, this body of work is based on what draws my attention while observing subjects for a painting.
Unlike a camera, our eyes take in countless images which are re-formed in the brain to give a seamless mental picture. Representing these countless images is impossible. Therefore I re-assemble sketches and multiple photographic images to visually glean what I require for a painting. This is my method of editing.
My paintings reference an increasingly limited exposure with nature. They are symbolic of our experiences with nature through the frames of windows, monitors, screens, photographs or the frame of a painter’s canvas.
