| Artist's Statement |
The Cardinalis Sketches (derived from the work cardinal) is a new body of
work in which the color red formally and conceptually serves as a point of
departure. While exploring references to subjects as diverse as linguistics,
botany, and ornithology, the series underscores a sustained interest in
selected artists for whom color and the sensuality of the human figure were
integral. The paintings reflect a tracing of felt experience — exploring
relationships of image to language and sensation to form.
